I started a little business in 2001 called eXoticforms where I crafted both original art and commissions for architects, designers & retailers. Today I’m pursuing LED installation opportunities and collaborations with others interested in combining light sculpture & technology such as LED, IoT, Projection, etc.

California (now)
We moved from Brooklyn to San Carlos, CA in 2016 where I took up shop in our sizable garage and I continue to work full time as a freelance web and social media producer.
Storage (2010-2016)
We moved back to Brooklyn from Maine in 2010 and money was too tight for a new shop space in Brooklyn. I went full time with web and social media work.
Maine (2006-2010)
Maine was a special place in all ways and our time there was most memorable. The majority 2007-08 was spent building a custom shop space.

“Fueled on the freedom and creativity of New York City in the late 1990s and driven by the desire for products that not only fulfilled his personal needs, but aesthetic sensibilities, John Lunceford found his calling in the world of art and design. Without a formal education in the field, Lunceford followed the impulses inherent to him as a natural-born tinkerer; drawing upon the blue-collar background he experienced growing up in Colorado in which his father worked as a mechanic for an industrial bakery maintaining and designing machines. While the words art and design were not frequently bandied about the dinner table, the basic understanding of how things work along with the strong belief in being able to do for one’s self were bestowed upon him from an early age.
The first eXoticforms project, the York Lamp, offered an exhilarating journey of trial and error, discovery and reward; the initial prototypes (constructed on the living room floor) partially conjured from an abundant pool of parts claimed off 100s of discarded, mass produced halogen torchiere lights. The foundation of a philosophy was forged in the attempt to conceive a longer lasting, more uniquely appealing lamp from the scrap of the very thing it was destined to replace. The process would eventually reveal a desperate need for higher quality parts to achieve the desired standard of function, and rising out of the mass of tubes, weights and busted dimmers designated for landfill since production came true innovation.
Today, eXoticforms marches on with the original independent and inventive spirit that it was founded upon, as John Lunceford continues to display his ability to comprehend why things don’t work and then perceive of a solution that improves both form and function. Thus, from the din and dust of a busy workshop somewhere deep in Brooklyn come modern, economical and environmentally responsible products built with an old-world sensibility of quality craftsmanship and artistry.”
