Reeds

Adding light to an otherwise dark environment.

The lines and textures of the natural world are complemented by an illuminated sculptural element. Influenced by the wild grasses of Maine that grow around the little ponds of the landscape about eXoticforms’ Maine workshop, Reeds offer limitless possibilities as inspirational outdoor displays, home décor accents or part of an artistic installation.

Controls

I’m very pleased with recent control systems development and the progress toward the goal of responsive, interactive sculpture.  The program driving the arrangement here uses the timing I prefer. Somewhere between flashy and deep chill.  However, a  wifi enabled app is just around the corner.

Born in Maine, raised in Brooklyn & at home in CA

My studio was located in Maine from 2006-2010. There I developed the Reeds design and got fabrication underway in 2009. Early models are constructed of a steel infrastructure and covered in a marine-grade resin to protect against the harshest elements. My newest version is light-weight and better than ever. Reeds promise to last and perform. All original pieces are still in use.

Each piece is handmade by me. If you’d like to have a set for your property or large scale interactive light sculpture experience for a campus, please get in tough with me. I’d be glad to understand the space and provide pricing details.

Evolution

Reeds have evolved to be very efficient and consume little power thanks to LED technology. I’m looking forward to an upcoming release of an autonomous solar powered solution. Additionally, with the use of LED’s and computer controllers, we can further shape the light experience. Coupled with responsive environment sensors such and movement, noise, vibration, temperature, and wind, the opportunity to create unique and interactive installations is within reach.

Possibilities

This rendered video of a DUMBO, Brooklyn park environment installed with Reeds was created for use in a proposal to the Dumbo Arts Festival acceptance committee.
