CommuniLumin — an invitation to the curious — DUMBO Arts Festival 2012

CommuniLumin was a collaboration between John Lunceford and James Cospito installed at the artist’s lounge for the 2012 DUMBO arts festival. It’s based on John’s Reeds design. Through a modern abstraction of ‘lit reeds’ that rise from 3 to 21 feet, CommuniLumin draws on the primal power of a stand of trees in an open meadow, to coming together around a fire, to communing around light in an otherwise dark environ.

Brooklyn represents the power of such collections, of which Dumbo and the Arts Festival are shining examples — small and large groups of individuals — collecting around an idea, a cause, a neighborhood — a beacon to awaken our sense of wonder and possibility.
